Workflow Status ‘In Progress’

Patrick Bakker
Workflow

When a workflow in progress contains multiple tasks of different categories (‘Risk & Impact’, ‘Approval’ or ‘Implementation’), the workflow status is set to the category of the open task that was started most recently.  This can be correct in some situations, but ambiguous and difficult to interpret in others.  It is much more informative for change managers to use the phases that can be defined in the workflow.

With this release the new workflow status ‘In Progress’ is introduced, replacing the old statuses ‘Risk & Impact’, ‘Approval’ and ‘Implementation’.  This means that whenever a workflow task of the category ‘Risk & Impact’, ‘Approval’ or ‘Implementation’ is in progress, the workflow status is set to ‘In Progress’.  By defining separate phases within the workflow, workflow managers (and the person who registered the request that triggered the workflow) can see the current phase of the workflow in the Workflow Progress Tracker.  It is also shown directly beneath the subject of the workflow.

The possible statuses of a workflow are now:

  • Being Created
  • Registered
  • In Progress
  • Progress Halted
  • Completed

As the release status also depends on the statuses of the related workflows, it will also reflect the status of the defining workflow. Here, the possible statuses are now:

  • Registered
  • In Progress
  • Progress Halted
  • Completed
